Hello dear readers!

We realize that we’ve been less than consistent in our posting over the past… say… year…  hmmmm…  But we’re still here!  Still ‘learning to be macro, one grain at a time’.  Our goal in 2010 is to rededicate time and effort into living the macro lifestyle - and to be more consistent and thorough about blogging our adventures, here at AGAD.  Incidentally, we welcome your thoughts and ideas about what you would like to see here.  We also welcome your testimonials about struggling to eat healthier and to adhere more closely to the macrobiotic lifestyle!  If you have such testimonials, please contact us (editor [at] agrainaday [dot] com).  We’d really love to hear from you!

As we gain our foothold here in 2010, please take some time to peruse our archives.  There is a lot of great information found in there about macrobiotics.  Here’s a little tour.  Everyone needs inspiration and new ideas to incorporate these principles.  Kristina Turner’s book is a real gem.  Of course, we also love the Hip Chick’s Guide to Macrobiotics (mentioned over and over throughout the archives).  I’ve done a series particular to those female macros out there, and we’ve included lots and lots of macro recipes for you to try!  If you check out “Your Macro Guide” on the left, you’ll see a glossary, and links to other macro information.

This is a great overview of macrobiotic basics, as we see it here at AGAD.  Miso soup, of course is a staple of macrobiotics.  Although we haven’t been great about eating a lot of it lately — when we do it sure feels good!  Check this out for information on its many attributes.  We’ve got a plethora of great musings on our favorite grains, including:  quinoa, brown rice, oatslentils… Curious about veggies?  Here are some great insights into those colorful “side” dishes:  hot & steamy, onionscarrots (a hip check guest post!), cauliflower… Of course, we like to keep it organic whenever possible.  If you love baking and baked goods as much as I do, check out some information on spelt flour (with a great recipe for blueberry muffins!).  Also if you need something sweet - check this out!

We’ve had questions, too.  Including whether the macro diet provides enough of a few important nutrients:  iron (more on this here), vitamin B12…  Here’s a great recipe for a high protein meal that is SUPER flavorful.  I’m a little hesitant to eat seaweed (I’ve made it one of my new years “intentions” to get over this hesitation, though!  More on that to come.) … One common struggle is overcoming the coffee cravings born of decades of addiction, and we’ve got a couple of good alternatives:  chai, tea, and grain coffee.  We’ve also ventured into the territory of social gatherings while maintaining your macro lifestyle.

We’ve struggled with macrobiotics on a number of occasions — and we’ve figured out that a lot of our success in this adventure depends on our own attitudes

So — once again we welcome you into this place.  Take off your shoes!  Walk around!  Check things out.  And get back to us with your feedback, ideas, testimonials, rants, whatevers…  Happy visiting!  Namaste.

    A toast to new beginnings!

This morning, I was sitting on my deck amidst the chill of an Austin winter and the sounds of I-35 in the distance, eating my oats… and thought of how I now eat oats regularly.

Wake. Bathroom. Yoga. Write morning pages. Oats.

And its a simple but tectonic shift in my life.

Starting the day with whole grains keeps me centered, focused.

I still struggle with a coffee addiction. I go back and forth. On and off. Throwing my yin and yang into a tailspin. But it’s a long learning adventure.

More Farm Fresh coming soon in 2010.
